Scammers don’t always knock loudly, they slip in quietly, masked as everyday emails, texts, or calls. With more transactions and conversations happening online, the risk of fraud is higher than ever. But with the right information, you can stay in control.
Protecting your finances starts with being cautious and aware. Common scams use urgency or fear to push you into quick decisions. Instead, take a moment to think, verify, and act wisely.
8 ways to safeguard yourself from fraud:
Don’t respond to unexpected requests for money or personal information.
Avoid clicking unfamiliar links or downloading attachments.
Set up alerts on your bank accounts for unusual activity.
Check your credit reports at least once a year at AnnualCreditReport.com.
Use strong, unique passwords and enable two-factor authentication.
Hang up on suspicious calls, especially those demanding immediate action.
Verify emails or texts directly with the institution they claim to represent.
Educate your loved ones, especially elders, about common scams.
