Who We Are

The ABEP Financial Empowerment Center (FEC) is a program that works with residents within the community, who may be unbanked, underbanked, or victims of predatory lenders, or other fringe banking outlets.

The FEC serves as a trauma-informed hub for wealth-building and financial well-being in Minneapolis & other BIPOC communities across Hennepin and Ramsey Counties. Services include access to financial literacy workshops as well as personalized one-on-one financial coaching and counseling.

The FEC will foster financial inclusion and improve the economic well-being of families through access to trauma-informed resources that will help them plan for their financial futures.

Why It Matters

ABEP was built on the vision of economic power and establishing a positive relationship with a thriving financial institution geared to the community’s needs.

Through financial education, participants will become empowered through their knowledge and understanding of their personal finances. With this level of knowledge and understanding, the programs provided through the FEC will enable participants to work with financial institutions from a position of economic power

How we do it?

We do it by offering culturally-rooted and trauma-informed education and coaching, that promotes saving, reducing debt, and moving toward financial independence and wealth-building. The program will help residents plan for their financial futures and build their skills around money management, budgeting, credit and debt solutions, and saving for the future.

The FEC will use innovative techniques in its focus on healing from financial trauma.

The FEC’s involvement and direct connections in the community play a huge role in identifying and articulating the definition of success and financial well-being. While basic financial literacy and budgeting skills are certainly one focus of the education and support, the program will also provide a range of other services focused on changing individuals' personal relationships with money.

As individuals become more empowered in their financial education, this knowledge h will ignite the entrepreneur mindset to create small businesses, become homeowners, and investors, and move down the path of creating generational wealth.
