Black Facts: Information You Need to Know

Join us for "Black Facts: Information You Need to Know," a virtual event on June 12th, 2024, at 6 PM via Zoom, hosted by the Association for Black Economic Power (ABEP). In recognition of Men's Health Awareness Month, this program will shed light on the critical health challenges facing Black communities, particularly Black men, while celebrating the remarkable progress and achievements in health.

Our distinguished speakers, Lucienne Olson from Revival Mentoring, Dr. Ansel T Johnson and Dr. James Thompson from the Healthy Living with a Vision Foundation, will explore the historical and contemporary contributions of Black individuals and the role of community activism in promoting wellness and health equity. This event aims to not only highlight these topics, but also empower individuals to see thier health as an asset to grow, protect and invest.

Dr. Ansel T Johnson

Founder and President of Healthy Living with a Vision Foundation, Dr. Ansel Johnson is a seasoned optometrist with over 30 years of experience in the eye care industry. He has been recognized by Black Enterprise Magazine as one of the top 101 leading Black Doctors in the United States, the sole optometrist to receive this honor. Dr. Johnson is a respected figure in the Blue Island community, known for his positive leadership and dedication to primary health care.

Dr. James Thompson

Dr. James Thompson is a board-certified immunologist with a deep commitment to serving individuals with respiratory and allergy-related conditions. He holds additional certifications in nutritional medicine and is an expert on the COVID-19 vaccine. Dr. Thompson advocates for healthy living through diet, exercise, and spiritual well-being, emphasizing the benefits of plant-based diets. He is passionate about educating the community on holistic health practices and fostering initiatives for overall wellness.

Lucienne Olson

Lucienne Olson is a health and wellness professional certified in personal training, yoga, fascial stretch therapy, and nutrition coaching. With a background as a professional bodybuilder and strongwoman competitor, combined with formal education in exercise science, Lucienne serves a diverse client base. She excels in connecting physiology (how the body works) with psychology (how the mind works), employing a holistic approach that includes exercise, nutrition, body awareness, and education. As the executive director of Revival Mentoring, a community-based program supporting at-risk youth in the judicial system, Lucienne empowers young people to make positive life choices and equips them with the tools to become their best selves.
